summarize the main points of the article:
There was a tornado that went over Joplin, Mo. The town suffered from serious destruction. Homes were without electricity. There were 30 deaths and 11 bodies were found at just one location. A major hospital in town had to be abandoned. The patients had to be moved in order to still care for them.
few thoughts or opinions of your own:
In my opinion something like this happening would be the scariest thing possible. I can't even imagine having something like that happen to where I live. One thing that would add to the scare is knowing that the hospital wasn't as available as it would need to be.

Acid Rain
1.) List a few of the gases which lead to acid rain.
sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides
2.) What is the source of much of the acid rain producing gases in Pennsylvania?
The source of most of the gases that create acid rain are high-sulfur coal burned in power plants and cars.
3.) Briefly explain how acid rain forms.
It forms when sulfur dioxides and nitrogen oxides that are in the atmosphere combine together with water and they form sulfuric acid and nitric acid. When you mix this with rain water they fall to the earth as rain water.

Global Temperature
The horizontal scale of this graph starts at 0 and goes to 2,000. Each tick mark represents 100 years. This graph shows 2,000 years.
The vertical axis is showing temperature anomaly in celsius. The total range is -0.8 to 0.8.
The graph came from UAH Globally Averaged Satellite-Based Temperature of the Lower Atmosphere.

1. I think the global average temperature is the average temperature all over the globe. I answered what I did because of using context clues.
2. I guess a random guess for the amount that the global average temperature has increased is 100-175º (random guess) I guess it is a lot when you are thinking about how hot that is.
3. I don't even have a guess as to how hot the earth has gotten before. Umm I guess the coldest it has been could be -70º (random guess) I answered what I did because I have a pair of hunting gloves that say that they can keep your hands warm in -40º. I mean they can obviously lie about that to make them sound better, but it was just a random guess.
4. I'm really not worried about global warming at all. a) because I really don't know anything about it. b) because I'm not a polar bear. Buuuuut I really don't know anything about it, so I'm really not sure what I'm talking about at all.

Forest Soil/Grassland Soil
Forest Soils need moderate amounts of rain. They need enough rain to support tree growth and to help with crops. You find this soil where weather is usually warm and humid year round. Grassland Soil needs just enough rain to support grass and is found in dry places. Grassland soil is found in places where it is warm all year. It is also found places where there are wet and dry seasons. This soil is also fertile enough for growing crops. |
